According to a University of Hong Kong survey, residents bet a total of $3.2 billion a year – and most want to play even more.
While casinos are illegal in the territory, tens of thousands travel to Macau to gamble, with offshore soccer betting another favorite.

75% of respondents supported legalising soccer betting - up from 51% two years ago - with 12 percent saying they would take a punt on football matches if it was not against the law.

The results come just weeks before the government tries to push through a bill legalising football betting, which it says will put illegal operators out of business and bring in billions in new tax revenues to help remedy its’ budget deficit.

90% of residents of residents polled claimed to have had some experience of gambling.@@@

They are about to go completely crazy on the football. One type of bet will be the foot (left or right) used to score the first goal. I just cannot wait for them to open up!

Do you think this will threaten the existing operations out there? Also how likely is this to become a reality? Do you think it will happen soon?

Thanks,

This sure is going crazy, people now have even more hobbies besides mahjong, dai dee, racing...

Revere, i believe the purpose for the government is to earn money, and it's gonna be really dirty, 'tickets' will be thrown back and forth before kickoff every week!!! but in the end, there will be no losers, except for the punters!!!
